Summer Staff is the volunteer experience for those who have completed at least 1 year of university or 1 full year out of secondary school. Summer staff serve the campers in roles which require considerable maturity and non-verbal witness. Cost: Summer Staff will be responsible for any costs relating to their travel to Cairn Brae; any airfare, taxis and public transport, visa costs, background check costs, spending money and accommodation outside of the session dates. A shuttle between Cairn Brae and Edinburgh airport will be organised for arrival and departure days, and can be booked with the office for a £40 return trip.

Secondary School

This is the volunteer experience for those between the ages of 16-18. To be eligible you must have completed one year of high school / be in year 11 - 13 / S5 - S6, and complete your local area's work crew training course. While volunteering on work crew, you'll meet people from all over UK, the rest of Europe and even from around the world. You'll also be challenged to take your faith to a new level and learn how to serve like Jesus did thousands of years ago.

Intern

Summer interns play a vital role in our summer camping ministry. Our interns are committed to Christ first and foremost. They also have the ability to lead others, serve with excellence and have a desire to be challenged and grow in their relationship with Christ. Summer interns will strive to serve Christ, kids and each other. They will also have the opportunity to grow as leaders in ministry, develop Christ-like relationships and enjoy the fun and beauty of camp. Summer interns arrive before the start of all sessions to spend time building our community and helping to set up camp. All interns will then leave after our last camp and tear down of camp.

Full-length Internship:

20 May - 23 August 2024

Half-summer Internship option:

20 May - 28 June or​ 6 July - 23 August 2024

This is a volunteer position. ​
Within the dates of the Internship room and board are provided.
Contributions to your expenses will be made depending on the length of Internship.

Requirements:

  • Currently active as a ministry leader in Young Life, Young Life International or other Christian ministry.
  • Past experience on summer staff or work crew at a Young Life or Young Life International property, or some other camping ministry.
  • At least 2 years out of secondary school or are at least 20 years of age.
  • Applicant must presently have the right to work as a volunteer in the UK or has to have a visa, which we can help with.
  • Acceptance to serve as Summer Intern is subject to satisfactory completion of your application and references as well as a completion and receipt of a Background Check and a successful interview.
  • A suitable background check must be undertaken before any offer of a placement can be confirmed. This may need to be paid for by the applicant or sending Young Life area.
  • A strong recommendation from a Young Life staff person and one other person (please contact your chosen referees and ask permission before you submit this application, and be sure to enter the correct email addresses).
  • Commitment to serve the length of the programme (full or half depending on which you signed up to) and to work well with other volunteers, coordinators and Camp Staff.
  • Commitment to live and engage in community.
  • Proficiency in English.

Cost:

Successful applicants will be responsible for related costs (with the exception of travel reimbursements up to £100 per camper week at Cairn Brae), accommodation outside of the Internship dates, visa costs, plus any spending money.

Interns will be encouraged to arrive at Edinburgh Airport on May 20th (or July 6th), and pick-up for transportation to Cairn Brae will be coordinated, at no cost!
